Stamps & Stamp Collecting
Founded in 1933
, the Salem Stamp Society, is located in Salem, Oregon. It is dedicated to the hobby of stamps and the enjoyment of the hobby of philately. The club was an early member of the Northwest Federation of Stamp Clubs which is a sponsor of PIPEX, and is affiliated with the Oregon Philatelic Congress and the American Philatelic Society. We are a State of Oregon non-profit organization. Meetings are open to all!

We currently have 95 members and hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Meeting topics are varied and have included APS slide shows, presentations by club members, discussions on Ebay and the internet, and much more. The meetings feature door prizes, a bid board, and club/member auctions. We sponsor two stamp bourses and exhibitions every year in the Spring and Fall. Stampex events draw collectors and dealers from the entire Pacific Northwest.

ON A SAD NOTE: The passing of Club member Gene Austin

Eugene "Gene" Elwood Austin, 83, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2008, just 5 months short of his 84th birthday.

Gene was a man of many interests:  He loved reading, exploring second-hand bookstores, travel, geneology, stamp collecting and being with his family.  Together, he and Helen, his wife, traveled and explored 48 states tracing family tree information as far back as the early-1600's.  For many years, Gene was active in the Salem Stamp Club, serving as its President and in other capacities.  After retirement, Gene started a stamp exchange of his own, bringing together other stamp collectors across the country to exchange information, stamps and ideas.  He was known to teach both young and old about the stamp collecting process, stamp history, geography and the countries each stamp represented.

THE BEST PHILATELIC WINDOW IN OREGON
Aumsville PO

The next time you are driving near Aumsville (or anywhere in that general direction) be sure to stop in and see club member Raymond Berg, who just happens to be the Postmaster in Aumsville. Ray had a post office table at the club bourse on March 15, 2008.

While taking a drive in the country we (Linda and myself) just happened to stop by and all we could say was WOW! He has the best (hands down) philatelic window we have ever seen in Oregon. He had every issue you could think of PLUS all the post office paraphernalia available to collectors.
